The Somali Independence Day Festival – Debneys Park Flemington Victoria.

It was an honour for Somali Community Inc. to host the Somali Independence Day Festival for 2018. It was a special day celebrating 58 anniversary of Somali Independence. On behalf of the Somali Community Inc. in Victoria, I would like to thank everyone who attended yesterday’s Somali Independence Day celebration at Debneys Park, Flemington. It was beautiful to see the community get together and celebrate such an important event. I would like to thank Moonee Valley City Council for their generous support to Somali Independence Day Festival. I would also like to thank Victoria Police, Victoria Multicultural Commission and all our supporters, volunteers guests of honor including Adam Bandt MP Federal Member for Melbourne, Natalie Suleyman State MP for St Albans, Jill Morgan CEO Multicultural Arts Victoria, Charmaine Hosking and Troy Papworth from Victoria Police, Gino Potenza from Liberal Victoria, Burhan Yigit, Commissioner Sisay Dinku, Church of Scientology, Co-health and Flemington Community Centre.

I would also like to thank our African volunteer supporters who gave us a great hand to the Festival such as: Eritrean Jeberti Community, AAMEYS, Oromo Community, Sudanese Community, Melbourne Entertainment Team, Oromo Entertainment team, Somali Youth in Victoria and our talented MC Hamsa Farah who kept/led the event go smoothly and well.

I also thank African Community Leaders who have attended the festival Dr. Steve Rametse. Mr. Stephen Sibanda. Mr. Abeselom Nega, Dr. Berhan Ahmed. Yasseen Musa, Tehiya Umer, Dr. Apollo S.
